This course is a 9 hour intensive which will make each student proficient at the use of all the tools in the metal shop. Students will leave having learned the basics and safety procedures for MIG welding and plasma cutting, as well as the ins and outs of the other tools in the shop. We guarantee at the end of this three week course, you will feel like more of a bad ass. We will cover introductory metal fabrication techniques as well as tool maintenance. We’ll go over MIG welding basics like wire speeds and amperage settings (not to mention proper attire), as well as Plasma torch setup and use. From there we’ll move to the drill press, how to safely clamp your work down, and how to set the proper spindle speeds. We’ll talk about the band saw, and correct blade feed and speed settings and then finally cover all the odds and ends of hand tools: cut off wheels, grinders, files, layout instruments, etc. The focus of this course will be the safety of your work environment, and hands on experience with each of tools. Students will leave the class feeling comfortable working in the metal shop on their own small projects. Students are welcome to come to class with project ideas, but should expect all class time to be spent on practical uses of the machines. This class comes with a 3 day shop pass.
